In Greek mythology Poseidon was a son of Cronus and Rhea. In most accounts he is swallowed by Cronus at birth but later saved, with his other brothers and sisters, by hi younger brother Zeus. However in some versions of the story, he, like his brother Zeus, did not share the fate of his other brother (Hades) and sisters (Hera, Demeter and Hestia) who were swallowed by there father Cronus. He was saved by his mother Rhea, who concealed him among a flock of lambs and pretended to have given birth to a colt, which she gave to Cronus to devour. According to John Tzetze the kourothrophos, or nurse of Poseidon was Arne, who denied knowing where he was, when Cronus came searching for him; according to Diodorus Siculus, Poseidon was raised by the Telchines on Rhodes, just as Zeus was raised by the Korybantes on Crete.

According to a single reference in the Iliad, when the world was divided by lot in three, the three godly brothers divided there domain. Zeus received the Sky, Hades the Underworld and Poseidon the Seas.

Being already the god of the Seas he lived in an underwater kingdom under the Aegean Sea with his queen Amphitrite.

His mayor symbol is the mighty Trident but he has other symbols that represent him like: fishes, dolphins, horses and sometimes the bull.

His Roman equivalent or Roman name was know as Neptune.

He is know is well known as the original god of the seas but also has other titles like: the earth-shaker, creator of horses and second in power in Olympus, second to his younger brother Zeus.

he doesn't really have one. He is one of Kronos and Rhea's children, and was swallowed by Kronos along with Hades, Hestia, Hera, and Demeter, because there was a prophecy that Kronos' children would destroy him, so he ate them to make sure it didn't happen. Obviously, it did end up happening, but that's another story.

Poseidon was the god of the sea, earthquakes, and other natural LAND AND SEA disasters. Zeus was the god of the sky, so he was responsible for storms. Poseidon is Zeus' brother.

What is Poseidon allusions?

In Greek mythology, Poseidon, the god of the sea, was Zeus's brother. An 'allusion' is a reference to something else. So, a poseidon allusion would be a reference, probably in a story or movie, to something about the sea or directly to Poseidon. For example, the 2006 movie called Poseidon was about an ocean liner named Poseidon meeting it's untimely demise - this is a direct allusion to Poseidon (the Greek god). Also, there is a scuba equipment manufacturer called Poseidon, Inc. Again, this is a direct Poseidon allusion.
