As the poets have mournfully sung,

death takes the innocent young,

the rolling in money,

the screamingly funny,

and those who are very well hung.

Irish Limericks

While you might believe that limericks are Irish in origin, that might not be the case. It was Edward Lear, of England, who first popularized the limerick, back in 1845. That said, because the city of Limerick is in Ireland, and because my Irish friends (I really have them) love limericks, I will share a couple of limericks about Ireland.

West Mayo
A silent young man from west Mayo
Had nothing he wanted to say-o.
Was questioned all night,
Held his lips squeezed up tight.
So I guess that he had his own way-o.

County Down
A young lass from old County Down
Was arrested for painting the town.
"It just got in me head
to go paint the town red."
Which she did in her night-sleeping gown.
