I believe it is called the gas assist cylinder
If you mean gasoline, it's either a tank or a refinery.

You can fill a cylinder with gas.
The gas in the liquified state under pressure and it can be filled inside the cylinder. Then it takes the entire available place in side the cylinder. This way gas filled in side the cylinder.
It might be caused by weak or worn out gas struts on either side of the window. You could probably get them at any auto parts store.

If you are having rear defrost issues, I have a 93 also. There is a rear defrost relay that is constantly going bad. It is located under the driver side dash above the gas pedal. This shiny metal box was the cause of my failure. It may be yours to. There is also a fuse for the rear defrost in the fuse box. Check these and check the contacts out back at the rear window also.
If the gas is compressed into the cylinder, yes. However if the gas is already pre-compressed (to the point of liquefaction) and simply decanted into the cylinder, there will be little to no heating of the receptacle cylinder.

The fuel filter on a 1999 Mazda 626 LX 4-cylinder is located in the rear of the vehicle. It is in the fuel line in front of the gas tank.
