They say it all depends on the oil and whether it is senthetic or not. Yes senthetic oil holds its melecular structure together under high loads longer than conventional oil with all the acids and pressures created during combustion. This is in a four stroke engine however where the oil is constantly reused and recycled throughout the engine. In a two stroke where you have a new charge of fresh fuel, oil and air, this is not the case. This is my opinion: I feel that you can run raw motor oil in a two stroke and the outcome would be a long lived engine with plenty of power. Mind you there will be some deposits (carbon) on the piston spark plug etc. but these are by products of hydrocarbons anyway right? Two stroke oil has additives that inhibit the growth of carbon formations. Synthetic oils go a step further and have even more additives so called anit wear agents and such. Many times I wonder If we are spending our money on the name or to make the environment a better place environmentally by compainies saying that their oil can be mixed at a ratio of 1:100. I have been running two strokes for many years and a good rule of thumb is for air cooled two strokes run a ratio of 1:24 and for liquid cooled run a ratio of 1:32 Also dont be afraid to make the mixture a little richer. I would rather buy or clean a new spark plug than rebuld an engine. How about you?
