What is the crystal size of a rock?

Quartz crystals range in size from cryptocrystalline (difficulty in observing even with microscopes) to gigantic. The largest individual quartz crystal recorded weighed more than 96,000 pounds and was roughly 20 feet in length.

How are crystals different than quartz?

Quartz is a type of crystal. There are many different types of crystals. A crystal is any solid with a regular repeating atomic/molecular structure. Quartz is a crystal that is composed of silicon dioxide. Diamond is a crystal of carbon. Rubies and sapphires are crystals of aluminum oxide. Salt is a crystal of sodium chloride. Even organic compounds, like sugar, can form crystals. Semi-crystalline material is also known, and an example of that is the common plastic HDPE (high density polyethylene).

Can topaz be pink?

Pure quartz, traditionally called rock crystal (sometimes called clear quartz), is colorless and transparent (clear) or translucent. Common colored varieties may contain other minerals and be translucent or even opaque.

What is the crystal that is used in most watches to vibrate?

Quartz is most common, but any piezoelectric material such as topaz, Rochelle salt, or even cane sugar could be used.

What makes quartz a gemstone?

A gemstone: rarity, beauty, durability, acceptibility Quartz, although not rare, grows in a definite crystal structure. It comes in many different colours that are not as rare as rock crystal (clear/white quartz), and to find a clearer crystal (less included) is even more rare. Quartz is #7 on Moh's scale of hardness, labelling it moderately durable and is somewhat inexpensive which, for a lot of budgets is desirable, because you still get a beautiful piece for less $$.

How do you tell between topaz and quartz?

To distinguish topaz from glass or quartzes (e.g. citrine), we should observe the hardness. Topaz is a fairly hard gemstone, meaning it is resistant to scratching. It is 8 on the Mohs hardness scale (diamond is 10, sapphire is 9). A scratch test will determine whether a stone is topaz in most cases. You can perform a scratch test by taking a piece of quartz or other material with a hardness around 7 and scratch it against the "topaz". If you don't want to risk the stone scratching, even if it's fake, you can choose to scratch it on the girdle (the unpolished rim around the gem). What is meant by positive quartz that is sold for making jewelry?

I am not an expert in mineralogy by any means, so I will defer to someone else that may be better trained. The "quartz" part is easy, and I assume you know what that is. The "positive" part refers to inclusions of another crystaline structure within the material. This enclosed crystal structure can be positive or negative. Positive inclusions are made of the same material as the surrounding material. Negative inclusions are made of some other material. So, "positive quartz" refers to a piece of quartz crystal that has a piece of a different quartz crystal inside of it. Visually, you see the included crystal as a sort of "ghosted outline". I am dealving into personal conclusion for this next part... since rutile has a crystaline structure, the well known "rutilated quartz" would be a good example of negative quartz. I can't say if a non-crystaline inclusion (for example, a bit of organic material or water trapped in a rapidly formed crystal) is considered to be a negative crystal or not. There is probably a local mineralogy society in your area. Such groups are made of of mineralogy enthusiasts at every level of knowledge. You might want to seek someone in one of these local groups if you don't get a better answer here. Based on my experience these guys are more than happy to spread their expert knowledge around to anyone who is interested enough to learn or even ask the question.

What are crystal colors?

Crystals may be of any colour, and of varying degrees of transparency. Moissanite has the highest refractive index, followed by Diamond, which is the hardest crystal. Even table salt and sugar qualify as crystals.

Is there any uses of crystals in the bible?

In the King James versionthe word - crystal - appears 5 timesBut it is not a reference to the semi-precious stones we know today, it is a reference to a clear, transparent quartz, or quartz-like mineral.Job 28:17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.Eze 1:22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.Rev 4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.Rev 21:11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;Rev 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

What minerals can scratch glass?

Any mineral with roughly a hardness of 6 or more on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness could scratch glass, which is roughly 5.5 on the Mohs scale. Some minerals that could scratch glass would be quartz, topaz, corundum, and diamond.
