Isostasy is the balance and buoyancy of the Earth's crust floating on the asthenosphere, the top layer of the mantle. The asthenosphere, like Silly Putty, adjusts to the different densities and thicknesses of the crust.
For instance, glaciers add weight (density, really) to the surface of the Earth. The added density depresses the flexible crust down into the asthenosphere, which, in turn, responds by slowly flowing away from the added burden. As the glaciers melt, the crust under them rebounds (rises), and the asthenosphere flows back, returning to its normal level.
15 kilo meters is the distance between the crust and the mantle
It is between the Crust and the upper mantle
The chemical layer of the Earth known as the mantle lies between the crust and the core.
convection currents in the upper mantle
The upper mantle is in between the lower mantle and the earths crust Crust- the outer most solid shell of the earth. The Uppermost mantle and the earth's crust form the lithosphere.
a mantle is something between the crust
Between the core and the crust is the mantle. The upper mantle contains the hard lithosphere and the weak asthenosphere. The lower mantle is marked by an increase in temperature and pressure. As a result, the rocks in the lower mantle flow much slower. The mantle...the mantleThis layer is called the mantle. The part of the Earth that is located between the core and the crust is called the mantle. The four general layers are:1. Crust (outer and surface layer)2. Mantle (thickest individual layer)3) Outer Core (liquid)4) Inner Core (solid)The mantle is sometimes divided into the mantle (proper) and the upper mantle, which exhibits some different characteristics from the layer as a whole.
The boundary between the crust and the upper mantle is called the Mohorovičić discontinuity, commonly known as the Moho.
