Real methamphetamine HCL. has been around a longer time but actually separating it or isolating it from other products, biproducts, etc. to be considered pure, or at least pure enough to have an identifiable crystal structure when dryed (or crystalized out of a solution! ) Probably took place for the first time in the 1930's. Plain amphetamine probably has been around longer!
It is my guess that 95% or more of the so called meth on the streets in the US is a very low quality or contains a very low amount of what I would consider real meth! Until recently (aproximately 15 years ago) many over the counter products actually had small amounts of hard to detect meth in them, products which claim to keep you aleart, awake, also products which contain psuedoephedrine or ephedrine which were sold for releif of breathing problems associated with athsma or hay fever!
