Giraffes and okapi are the only two existing species of the family of animals called Giraffoidea. Before that they evolved from an extinct family that also included antelopes called Palaeomerycidae. During that time the giraffid family group developed elongated necks which set them apart from the antelope family set. Over time all but the okapi and giraffes we now know now died off. They are all that is left of the giraffid family.
