Little is known about the history of spinal deformities in ancient Greece.
Hippocrates introduced the terms scoliosis and kyphosis and wrote in depth about diagnosis and treatment
Through accurate observation and logical reasoning was led to accurate conclusions firstly for the structure of the spine and secondly for its diseases.
The innovation of the board, the application of axial traction and even the principle of trans-abdominal correction for correction of spinal deformities have their origin in Hippocrates. Galen, who lived nearly five centuries later impressively described scoliosis, lordosis and kyphosis, provided aetiologic implications and used the same principles with Hippocrates for their management, while his studies influenced medical practice on spinal deformities for more than 1500 years.
I have scoliosis and no one in my family has had it. So you can get scoliosis even if its not in your family history. There are 3 types of scoliosis, I suggest looking them up, I unfortunatly have the type that no one knows what's causing it. But the 2 other types are well know and if you have it they can probably do more for you than mine.
The history of scoliosis treatment is as old as the condition of idiopathic scoliosis itself. The first known historical records of scoliosis come from the Greeks (Hippocrates, the father of medicine, none-the-less) in 400 BC and Galen who first coined the term "scoliosis" sometime between 131-201 AD.
Not likely. Scoliosis is usually a birth defect with the tissue near the spine. Mild cases are common, showing up during adolesence. Scoliosis is not know to be spread by family history. ~ I'm going to have to disagree with the answer listed above. Scoliosis is a multi-factorial condition with both genetic pre-disposition and environmental influences. While it is not guaranteed that "scoliosis genes" may be pasted onto the offspring, it is certainly a likelihood.
That is called a scoliosis. You can remember the 'S' shaped spine of Scoliosis.
