What is the history of the Potter family?

James Potter was born to two parents who were 'getting on in life'. He was an only child and spoiled. He was allowed everything he ever wanted and was never denied anything which made him a bully at Hogwarts, however he wasn't a horrible pure-blood who hated muggle-borns and he disliked people like that. When he started Hogwarts he took immediate dislike to Severus Snape who wanted to be in Slytherin and who took the muggle-borns are bad policy. Later on he was also jealous because Lily Evans, whom he liked very much, spent so much time with him.

After realizing that he liked Lily he began to ask her out and because he was used to getting what he wanted wouldn't take no for answer and bothered her for several years. Most likely around four years. Lily refused to go out with him because he was such a bully but he grew up in his seventh year and they started dating.

After Hogwarts they quickly married, most likely in the summer or fall of 1978 which is the year they left school in but it could have been as late as July 1979. In October 1979 Lily fell pregnant with Harry and they were forced to go into hiding because of the prophecy. However they put their trust into the wrong person and one week after the Fidelius Charm was put into effect Peter Pettigrew betrayed them.

Voldemort broke into the Potter household on the 31st of October 1981 when Lily and James were twenty one and their son Harry was one. James was killed in the hallway after screaming at Lily to take Harry and run. Lily tried to barricaded herself and Harry in his bedroom but Voldemort got in. He offered her the chance to stay alive after he remembered his promise to Severus Snape to spare her but she refused and died for her son. The spell backfired and Voldemort was destroyed along with the house.

Harry was sent to live with the Dursley's were they refused to tell him anything about his parents except that they died in a car crash. The Dursley's kept his magical abilities a secret from him and mistreated him. On Harry's eleventh birthday (31st July 1991) Hagrid came and told him. Harry went to Hogwarts battled Voldemort and eventually defeated him.

After defeating Voldemort he married Ginny Weasley and had three children; his eldest son named after his father and godfather; James Sirius Potter. His middle child named after two headmasters of Hogwarts whom Harry described as the two bravest people he ever knew; Albus Severus Potter. And his youngest child and only daughter named after his mother and a close family friend; Lily Luna Potter.
