boo comes from the French word "beau" which literally means beautiful.

It was later used in England as a reference to a male admirer and took on the meaning ofboyfriend or girlfriend. Eventually the pronunciation of beau- pronounced byoo, turned into 'boo'.

Usher then sang his hit titled 'My Boo' in 2004 which brought about widespread use of the term.

Example- Yo, I gotta meet my boo in 15 and she'll kill me if I'm late.

I disagree with the above. There are 2 earlier uses of 'boo'. The first in the 1994 cover song "I'll Be There For You/You're All I Need to Get By" by Method Man and Mary J. Blige. The second occurrence was actually scare-related in the 2001 movie Monsters, Inc. when the character Sully (Sullivan) couldn't scare the little girl so, instead, he affectionately started calling her 'boo.' After Monsters, Inc., the term gained greatly in popularity.
