It differs from a horizon as it may be obscured by dust, forest or landforms such as hills.By extension a horizon is the point at which two different thing meet. (e.g sea and sky). It can be used to describe phenomenon like the event horizon surrounding a black hole which is the point at which light can no longer escape the gravitational attraction of the black hole
A horizon can be used in geology to describe a layer of different rock or ore in a larger mass of rock.
