" Peaceful, pleasant hotel in stunning location "
Submitted By: snoz 64N.B. THis has changed its name to Litera Marmaris Beach Resort now - all the locals call it Litera Hotel.
Having booked this holiday through holiday experts and then finding on the e-ticket that it was a Goldtrail holiday (search YouTube for the holiday watchdog review of this company if you want a scare!) nearly frightened ourselves to death!
I had wanted somewhere quiet and scenic but within easy reach of the main resort. This fulfilled all our expectations.
The hotel is on its own in a beautiful wooded hillside. It has a small private beach with a small bar and a couple of jetties. We could go at any time to find sunbeds/umbrellas and cushions free. The snorkelling here is fantastic - better than anywhere else in the bay and outside, I think, due to the fact that there used to be an aquarium nearby and there are numereous escapees that have bred!
The hotel itself could benefit from some TLC but the general feeling here is relaxed and friendly. We had no difficulties in making ourselves understood either. Everyone was friendly and welcoming.
Rooms were cleaned daily - sheets and towels changed a couple of times during our stay, with the beds being decorated with flowers. It costs extra for air conditioning (£25 per week) but you can purchase it by the day too if you ask.
Food was fresh, good and varied and the chefs obviously took a lot of pride in their work. One watermelon was beautifully carved in the fruit display. Most mealtimes there was a chef barbecuing fish, liver or chicken etc.Plentiful varied salads, pasta, rice and frseh fruit. Vegetarians will not be disappointed. If you want English food then it is not for you. The clientele here are mostly Turkish, Polish, Russian and Austrian. The drinks are weak and limited but it is no bad thing taking the heat into account. Plenty of coffees/cappucino/ fruit teas to choose from too.We saw no bad behaviour or drunkeness at all. The bar area was pleasant and friendly.
Pool was beautiful and not over chlorinated but clean. Pool towels were available from reception on demand.
The steps up to the rooms (which were in blocks of about 8 dotted around the hillside)were hard work (temperature was 47C!!)but we quickly learnt to organise ourselves for the day so we only went back at bedtime! It was worth the climb to have peaceful nights - didn't need the earplugs that we bought!!!
The hotel is on the dolmus route to town - only 2.5 lira ( about £1) and ten minutes. The public transport system here works amazingly well and we used it all the time. For the evening the entertainment team organise a free bus into Marmaris at 11.30 -back at about 3 for those interested in clubbing. Entertainment team consist of Charlie and Ebulla - both really nice , fun lads who really make an effort.
Goldtrail rep came daily - very nice lady but despite making the right noises when things weren't right failed to do as she said.E.g. one trip we booked with her(lazy day boat trip) was very poor We went all inclusive but the bar was closed 50% of the trip( couldn't even get a glass of water in temperatures of over 40C), the lunch was awful and we had no pick up at the end and had to make our own way back to our hotel at our own expense. When we reported this to her she seemed genuinely sorry and promised a partial refund - we are still waiting and pursuing this with Goldtrail.
Must highly recommend the Dalyan trip to Turtle Beach- the tour guide Hakan is knowledgeable, intelligent and charming. This is the best trip we have ever been on anywhere and worth every penny.
Overall would give this hotel a good English 3* rating, and I think if you go with that expectation you won't be disappointed. The location is stunning if you like scenery and some peace and quiet.
Advice: Diverse town. Beautiful castle , old town, fantastic covered bazaar& market . Stunning scenery.
Activities: Trip to Dalyan - mud baths, Lycian tombs, turtle beach all in one day is a must. Market on Thurs.
