This is most likely the Temple at Jerusalem built by King Solomon.
It was a vast building, with several courtyards and porticos.
In the centre of the courts was the 'Holy Place' which contained an inner room - the 'holy of holies' separated from the rest of the interior by a large curtain. Behind this was stored the Ark of the Covenant.
The Temple was destroyed in a revolt against Roman occupiers in the latter half of the first century.
Now only part of the western wall of the Temple remains but it is still a site of pilgrimage for Jews who go to pray there whilst in Jerusalem.
