There have not been any supported or re-tested conclusive long-term studies yet. This idea is still being researched. Due to a lack of nutrition, the brain will slow down responses and electrical impulses. It is believed that a restoration of proper health and nutrition will restore these functions, but it is unknown how much of a percentage is restored or if there are long term effects. Studies are currently going to to see if anorexia in young children affects their long-term brain or intellectual development.

Unfortunately, there are some very negative social consequences of anorexia. Anroexia is often kept a secret because it is looked down upon by most people. Many think that the disease makes an anorexia less of a "good" person, which is not true. Other people might view the anorexic individual as selfish, attneiton-seeking, "mental" or "crazy", or just plain weird. Anorexics are often shunned or made fun of. Anorexics will ofteh suffer from depression and isolation.
