It's called expansion, or thermal expansion. It's usually noted by the Greek character alpha.

Most materials have alpha values greater than zero, so the thermal expansion occurs when temperature increases. However, some other materials have negative thermal expansion, as happens with water. Liquid water will increase its volume under cooling conditions below ~4 ºC. It will also increase it's volume as the temperature rises away from 4o C.

How does temperature affect the volume of substance?

An increase in temperature will cause an increase in volume, while a decrease in temperature will cause a decrease in volume.

How will a pressure increase affect a gaseous system?

According to Boyle's Law of Pressure-Volume Relationship, an increase in the pressure of a gas will decrease it's volume. And according to Charles's Law of Temperature-Pressure Relationship, an increase in pressure causes an increase in temperature.

What is the effect of temperature on volume?

As temperature increases, the volume of a substance typically increases due to the particles moving more rapidly and spreading out. This relationship is described by the ideal gas law equation, which shows that temperature and volume are directly proportional for ideal gases.

What temperature does a gas change?

any increase in temperature will cause gas to occupy a larger volume, any decrease will shrink the volume to a point it becomes liquid. further decrease will cause a solid to form. at -273 degrees celsius everything is solid

How a change in pressure or temperature will effect the volume of gases?

According to Boyle's Law, a decrease in pressure on a gas will cause its volume to increase, while an increase in pressure will result in a decrease in volume, assuming temperature remains constant. Conversely, Charles's Law states that increasing the temperature of a gas at constant pressure will cause its volume to expand, while lowering the temperature will lead to a reduction in volume. These relationships illustrate the inverse relationship between pressure and volume, and the direct relationship between temperature and volume in gases.

What would cause the pressure of a gas to increase?

An increase in temperature or a decrease in volume would call the pressure to increase. Apex- increasing the number of gas particles

What will not cause a decrease in tidal volume?

Factors that will not cause a decrease in tidal volume include exercise, stress, excitement, and increased respiratory drive. These can actually lead to an increase in tidal volume.

How does the changes in temperature and pressure affect the volume and the amount of gases?

In general chemistry we are taught the ideal gas equation of state PV=nRT. n is the number of moles of gas and R is the molar gas constant. This is an extremely important equation in the study of thermodynamics.

What are the effects of temperature on the mass volume and density or water?

Temperature will have no effect on mass, however it generally causes the volume to expand (I say generally, because there is a small range in where an increase in temperature cause contraction). Since volume grows and mass stays the same, then density will decrease.

What is the increase in volume that results from an increase in temperature called?

The increase in volume that results from an increase in temperature is called thermal expansion. This occurs because temperature changes cause the particles in a substance to move faster and spread out, leading to an increase in volume.

What gas law describes when adding gas to a balloon will cause the volume to decrease?

Boyle's Law describes the relationship between the pressure and volume of a gas at constant temperature. According to Boyle's Law, when adding gas to a balloon, the volume will decrease if the pressure inside the balloon increases.

Does evaporation make decreasing temperature?

Yes. Evaporation will cause temperature to decrease or will slow down a temperature increase.
