As a north carolinian myself, I would say that textiles were, at least, a huge part of our states industry, though carbide inserts are more popular now, such as those made by Kennametal, and neighboring companies, such as Tungaloy among others. Most of my town consists of old mill houses built just for the mill/textile workers, and a good bit of them are still there, in northeastern north carolina, the former home of the largest weaveroom in the country, Patterson mill. It has since been regretably torn down.

What is the role of the North Carolina industrial commission in an nc workers compensation case?

The North Carolina Industrial Commission (NCIC) was created by
the North Carolina General Assembly in 1929 to administer and
enforce the North Carolina Workers' Compensation Act. In 1949, its
authority was expanded to also administer the Tort Claims Act
(claims against the State for civil wrongdoing).
The North Carolina Industrial Commission (NCIC) currently
processes Workers' Comp claims in NC. This includes administrative
and evidentiary hearings before judges known as Special Deputy
Commissioners, the Executive Secretary, Deputy Commissioners and
Commissioners. This also includes sending cases to mediated
settlement conferences, processing motions, handling appeals, and
other such work in administering claims under the North Carolina
Workers' Compensation Act.
