This could be described as a tautology. If the song was not your own, why would it be called your song? If it is your song, then by definition, it is your own.
My current favorite song that has irony is Kurt Cobaine's song Come As You Are. He repeats over and over I don't have a gun, but he committed suicide with a gun. That's irony!
An example of irony in song lyrics would be the song Ironic by Alanis Morissette. This song is an example of irony because although Morissette sings about all of these supposed ironic things, none of them are ironic, they're all just bad luck.
Oh, irony.

There is a song on Sgt. Pepper called When I'm 64.
"Come as You Are" is rather a song of contradictions than irony. Come as you are, as you were.... take your time, hurry up....as a friend, as an old enemy.... As you can see, the lyrics are purposefully contradictory to tell about relationships through time and acceptance of yourself and other people. Response: Good answer. The irony I was speaking of is that he sings over and over that he hasn't got a gun. He swears that he hasn't got a gun. Unfortunately that's how he died by his own hand with a gun. That is a contradiction as well. ... to the person that wrote he did have a gun... you are an idiot!
Situational irony in the last song could include a love ballad playing during a breakup scene, a happy song playing during a tragic event, or a song about freedom playing during a character's imprisonment. These instances create unexpected contrasts between the music and the on-screen events.
In "The Censors" by Luisa Valenzuela, examples of irony include the protagonist censoring his own letter which leads to his own execution, and the absurdity of a repressive regime employing individuals to censor themselves. Additionally, the irony of the protagonist initially seeking a job at the censorship department to expedite the delivery of his letter, only to become trapped in the system he sought to manipulate, adds layers of irony to the narrative.
In Alanis Morissette's song "Ironic," the irony lies in the juxtaposition of expectations versus reality. The song presents several scenarios where the outcomes are contrary to what one would typically anticipate, such as rain on a wedding day or winning the lottery and dying the next day. These examples illustrate life's unpredictability and the absurdity of finding humor in unfortunate situations. Ultimately, the song itself has been critiqued for not always showcasing true irony, adding another layer to its ironic nature.
In "Penelope" by Dorothy Parker, the irony lies in the fact that the speaker, who is addressing Penelope about her patience and steadfastness, reveals her own impatience and inability to stay faithful in relationships. The speaker's admiration for Penelope's loyalty serves as a contrast to her own behavior, highlighting the theme of hypocrisy and the complexity of human emotions.
