an apprentice is a clan cat who has reached six moons (months). It is given a warrior mentor to train it and instead of its last name being kit it becomes paw. Its mentor trains it until it is ready to become a warrior when the clan leader chooses its name for it. Apprentices become warriors when they have trained long enough or participated in a battle with another clan
An apprentice is a trainee who learns a skilled trade through hands-on experience and instruction from a skilled worker. The role of an apprentice is to work under the guidance of a mentor to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to become proficient in their chosen trade.
um i remember some like checking the elders for ticks and getting moss
Edit: Apprentices are in training to become warriors, and must therefore train for much of the day in the ways of hunting and fighting. They must also learn the meaning of the warrior code, learn their Clan's boundaries, etc. They are responsible for hunting for the elders and queens, as well as gathering moss and other materials for bedding. Taking care of the elders' ticks, while generally a job for the medicine cats, was passed on to apprentices that had, in some way, shirked their duties (hunted for themselves before they hunted for the Clan, for example). In the later series, tending to the elders' ticks seems to have become a more routine duty for apprentices.
