Generally, giant otters range from 57 to 71 inches. The largest Giant Otter known is 94 inches. That would be 2 inches short of 8 feet long. The male giant otter usually weighs between 26 and 34 pounds. The female is slightly smaller.

The giant otter, Pteronura brasiliensis, is the largest species in the subfamily Lutrinae (the otter subfamily) and even in the family Mustelidae (which also includes weasels, badgers, ferrets, and other mustelids). The male giant otter can reach lengths of nearly 6 feet (1.8 meters). However, in weight, the giant otter can be matched by the sea otter: both can weigh nearly 100 lbs (45 kg).
