This meant that Algeria became the largest country in Africa and the second-largest became the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is nowhere near the Mediterranean. As a result, currently, there is no country that is both (1) the second-largest country in Africa AND (2) a country on the Mediterranean Sea.
