Bruno tries to make up for denying not speaking up for him when the soldier asked if he knew the boy, by helping Shmuel find his father. To do so he must first dig a hole under the fence and dress up as a Jewish boy. They then are herded to a gas chamber by German soldiers, where they are killed.
