There isn't a 'legal' age. It's pretty much whatever the parents want. That if, of course, if you are just watching kids for a family you know. However, if you want to get a job at a child care place, then it depends on the place itself
To stay home alone and babysit is 12 years old babysitting overnight or just staying there late. But, in my personal opinion you should probably wait till you have lot of experience babysitting until you stay there overnight.
I was able to stay alone at 12 or 13. To babysit, especially an infant, I wouldn't feel safe until they were 16. It really depends on the child though. Maybe you should just hire a babysitter?
