3 to 7 months -- but that does not include the length of time it takes the seed to die -- the seed is part of the plant, so some plants die while most don't die, they simply change. If life is carried in the DNA the plant dies when the DNA dies -- or the plant lives on as part of another plant. Like you are part of your parents -- when they die, their DNA lives in you, and you pass part of it on to your children. But your children are not your parents, but they have your parents DNA. So when the seed dies, the plant dies. If your children die before t hey have children -- then your parents have died.

Some trees lose their leaves in the winter -- are they dead? some plants can have the top part of their body die and break off, but the roots keep growing -- so the question is -- does a rice plant live beyond one seed producing season? The answer is that yes, some do.

Death, even in plants, is not an easy thing to talk about or describe.
