Roosters can easily get into their teens and even into their 20's, if they are not killed first. Most roosters may live around 5-20 years.

That's right in fact, it is known that roosters live slightly longer than hens. Like my rooster who lived 10 years while my hens only lived 7.

A pampered well cared for rooster can last for up to twelve years. On average though, barring an attack by predators or major illness, they will often give you 6 to 8 years of service to the flock.

Average well cared for rooster can live over 10 years and sometimes up to 15 years old.

Because a roosters job in life is to protect his flock from predators they seldom make it to that age. They take their job seriously and will attack anything that threatens the hens thereby offering up their own lives to give the hens enough time to get away from the danger.

A well cared for rooster has the potential of living for over 10 years. It is unlikely however that a rooster would live that long if he is a flock rooster guarding a flock of chickens since the roosters job is to protect the hens he will always put himself in harms way. The rooster is not as strong as most predators and will often be the first bird killed when an attack take place, thus giving the hens time to run and hide.
