What I've found out is that of course the Japanese people embrace technology. A less obvious factor though is that Japan has a population that's into the park and walk scene. They walk around (liming is what i call it) and therefore will find vending machines convenient for anything (snacks, drinks, pornography and underwear even). Also, Japan has a low rate of vandalism so it's pretty profitable. Hope that helps! Check out 'vending machines' in wikipedia.
Apart from the vending machine cost in India, a vending machine operator will incur expenditure to hire part-time staff to refill the machines on a timely basis, installation of CCTV cameras for surveillance of the vending machine and its products, stock charges as in the cost of buying the products to fill the machine, pay monthly location rent and have a few more expenditure. However, with Vendekin’s smart Vcommerce platform, vending machine operators can now have access to a wide range of F&B and retail products available at a negotiated rate to increase the profit margins earned by the vending machine operators.

Yes - if the new terminals are capable of processing signals at a faster rate than before. Mainframes are usually very fast machines - in order to cope with multiple terminals accessing the data on the hard-drive. Improving the speed of the satellite terminals will increase the rate at which the data is passed between the machines.
