Every house I've ever been in has a bedroom. Most have a living room area, that may be combined with the kitchen to form a Great Room. In apartments, or in some very small condos, it could be a single room that serves as the bedroom, living room and kitchen.
There are many sizes from around 16 x 18 in a small house up to 30 x 40 in a large house.
