The first portion of the large intestine is called the cecum. It connects the small intestine to the colon and is located in the lower right side of the abdomen. The appendix is attached to the cecum.

The lower intestine is called the large intestine. This part of the digestive system absorbs nutrients from what someone puts in their stomach. The large intestine is about five feet long.
The lower third of the small intestine is called the ileum. It is the final section of the small intestine that connects to the large intestine at the ileocecal valve. The ileum is responsible for absorbing nutrients and transferring waste to the colon for elimination.
The large intestine is in the lower abdominal cavity, roughing ringing the small intestine.
The lower portion of the stomach is called the antrum. It is responsible for grinding food and mixing it with gastric juices before it moves into the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine. The antrum plays a key role in the digestive process by regulating the release of partially digested food into the small intestine.
