The entire Hawaiian island chain extends approximately 1,500 miles from the island of Hawaii in the south to northernmost Kure Atoll. The northwesternmost island in the chain is Green Island, which is joined to the Kure Atoll. ChaCha again soon!

Kure Atoll is not extinct, as it is a coral atoll in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands that is still alive and actively being shaped by natural processes. It is part of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and provides a critical habitat for numerous species of marine life.
It is named Sand Island and has as area of about 1,200 acres.
The state extends westward from the "big island" of Hawaii, near 150°W longitude, to near 178° W longitude (Kure Atoll), and the associated island chain stretches northwest to the Aleutian Trench.

Laysan Island is a tiny Hawaiian atoll. It is northwest of the main Hawaiian Islands. Laysan is part of a protected wildlife sanctuary, and no animals live there.
