According to IFSTA*, in its interpretation of NFPA 1031 Job performance requirements, an FI-2 is required (among other things) to:
- be more involved in research and interpretation of codes,
- work with policies and forms,
- work with local codes to enforce them and modify them as necessary,
- work with local plans reviewers,
- evaluate fire protection plans and egress systems,
- review and evaluation of access plans, emergency plans, emergency preparedness, and installation of fire protection systems.
