Sharks have been found in the Euphrates and there is no reason to think they haven't spent some time in both of Iraq's rivers. Now pollution and overfishing may limit their appearances. The internet research I've done suggests they are either bull or ganges sharks.

As all civilizations before the industrial revolution were agrarian, this allowed the Mesopotamians to sustain steady growth in their population.
The rivers flooded annually, keeping up the fertility of the valleys and providing water to grow crops to support large agricultural communities. The surplus generated by this allowed the development from mere subsistence to providing for development of culture, which we call civilisation.
