Grass or grass hay is what should be the core part of their diet. Forage is what keeps the horse in his healthiest condition. If the horse does not have grass or grass hay to eat 24/7, he will have periods where his stomach is empty, and when this happens, the gastrical juices in his stomach slosh around to a senstive part in his stomach, and can eat away at this part, causing ulcers.
Horses are also commonly fed legumes, like alfalfa (which in excess wil cause stones in the digestive tract, so it should not be a large part, if any part, in the horse's diet) and grain also makes a good sized portion of the horse's diet.

Ponies aren't baby horses. Ponies are a type of horse that only grow up to 14.2 hands (four inches a hand) or less, and no further. If a pony impreganted another pony, the result would be a pony. However if the 'parents' are both horses than the baby would be a horse.

Besides a seahorse, a horse that has foundered on grass must be kept away from grass. Green, lush grass could kill an already foundered horse. (ponies are at greater risk)
Absolutely. Ponies are really just smaller-sized horses. Though the proper amount of feed for a pony would most likely be less than a horse, it'd be the same type of feed. For examples, search What do you feed a shetland pony and how much?Runninghorse
Mares are used in polo, and at max they are 14.3 hands - really polo ponies. Answer 2: There is no sex or height restriction on Polo Ponies. Many are well over the pony height designation and can be of any sex. 'Polo Pony' is a type of horse rather than a strict breed.
