Carcinogens produce mutations within DNA, inside cells. Usually this results in the death of the cell, but sometimes, if multiple mutations occur, the cell will start to reproduce uncontrollably, which results in cancer.

∙ 12y agoit doesn't cancer is a genetic disease that is passed on through the sharing of genetic material. The only other way it can be passed on is by contact with other blood. There are some cancers that are caused by non genetic things, like lung cancer (smoking) or skin cancer (too much exposure to the sun).

∙ 12y agocarcinogens can cause a wide range of cancers. They include UV rays which cause thymidine dimers and skin cancer. Carcinogens can also cause mutations in cell cycle arrest genes that are suppose to halt and cause apoptosis in damaged cells.
Carcinogens also include tobacco which damage these cell cycle genes as well as damage the cilia of the lungs and can cause lung cancer and emphysema.
