in twilight the apple represents Bella's temptaion of how she could be friends with a vampire. the apple as temptaion is like in Snow White.

in new moon the wilting flower represents Bella because she is kind of falling apart cause edward left her.

in eclipse the torn ribbon represents Bella torn between two worlds; vampire and werewolves.

finally in breaking dawn the chess pieces represent strategy.

And also if you put them in order they spell LOVE

L: Chess piece on the front of Breaking Dawn

O: The bleeding rose on the front of New Moon

V: The arms make the shape of a V on the front of Twilight

E: The ribbon on Eclipse

Have a look if you have all the books :D

The apple on the cover of "Twilight" represents forbidden fruit and temptation, symbolizing Bella and Edward's dangerous and alluring love. The Chess pieces on the cover of "New Moon" symbolize the strategic moves and sacrifices made by the characters. The ribbon on the cover of "Eclipse" represents the intertwined destinies of Bella, Edward, and Jacob. The red pawn on the cover of "Breaking Dawn" symbolizes Bella's transformation and new beginning.

Yes there is

===========================================

Okay, first and foremost there is the first book, which has the stupid bible quote of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. ((Which makes no sense in the context of the book, if the vampires were more akin to CURSED beings then I would allow it.)) But basically it means that Edward is the snake, he is the temptation to fall into darkness/sin. ((But that NEVER happens, since he is supposed to be a good Christian...))

New Moon, those usually represent darkness/mystery, and a new beginning. As well it could, I say COULD tie into the shifters, being 'werewolves' when werewolves are tied with the moon. I would say that new moon could be a clever way of saying 'these wolves are not like the ones you have seen' as in utterly demolishing the ties to the lunar cycle. BUUUT that would be saying that Meyer is smart and analytical and did a LOT of research, as well as making it a bit more subtle way of introducing the subconscious of of heads that 'there be wolves' in this novel. I would say it WOULD have been subtle if she did not beat out heads of it in not only in Twilight, but also New Moon its self. The flower dripping its petals can be tainting the pure. Since it is a white flower but is almost bleeding. But as NONE of this happens it is just there for 'pretty' value. Bella in NO way looses innocence and any argument about Edward leaving her is her lost innocence, it does not work that way since he shacks up with her right at the end and NO GROUND IS MADE.

Eclipse can be many things, as usually one of those spells doom. In MANY cultures of old and even some of today it precedents MAJOR events happening. It spells that something grand and in some ways magical. In the old days it was god/gods punishing mankind by showing such a grand display of taking the 'life giving' sun away. The breaking red ribbon can mean again something of innocence taken, or rather being frayed away. This away is if the author is SMART and Meyer is not intelligent enough to say that THIS is what the image means. What the cover actually means is HURT. It is the cutting of a vein which Bella does to draw Victoria to her. Since again there is no innocence lost in this book it can not mean anything else but hurt, if it means anything at all.

The last book says that now Bella has become the WHITE queen. Representing innocence and power, but again Bella is not innocent. What the cover should have been was white, and then use the black queen with the red pawn in the background. This way it would symbolize the 'light after death' as well as her corruption into the vampire ways, as the red pawn behind the queen can mean that is her blood lust, as well as her overcoming it, being that a pawn could not ever take a queen alone. ((without much maneuvering...but still would be devilishly hard.)) But with the white queen it means that Bella does not HAVE to go through any pain, anything that will corrupt her. Thusly being a symbol of innocence and power she is make into something where not even the shadow of blood-lust will touch her. ((I would also have made the red pawn MUCH closer and shown it looming behind the queen as if it itself is larger. This puts that while you are strong you can NOT just 'ignore' the lust for blood.)) But as it is the covers are idiotic.

They can mean a lot of things, and quite frankly I doubt they mean anything. This is giving too much credit to the author and saying that she is utterly creative and knowing is all things symbolic. For the first book I would have dispensed with all the bible crap since it makes no sense for the actual narrator Bella whom is NOT religious at all. It works for Edward more then Bella, and the book is ALL about Bella, not Edward. I would have used a image of Venus, shinning in the night sky. Because it is not only one of the first stars ((Twilight star)) it is also the 'star' for the goddess of love. Which would be more subtle then bashing the 'seduction of falling into sin.' Because she is a goddess of love it means she can be the temptation into body desires and lets face it, Bella wants to jump Eddy's bones.

For the second book it would blank, no image, and only the text of the book name and author. Why because that is what a new moon is, DARKNESS. Its plenty symbolic and I would put again the star venus or actually the north star on the back. Why that? Because that means that Bella needs guidance, and has 'lost her way' in the darkness caused by the new moon.

For the third it should be instead a knife point dripping blood, showing just the barest hint of a female hand covered in blood. This could mean a lot, but what it would mainly mean that Bella got hurt, or did battle with something and killed it. Many many things can be that, and if you were at all subtle with bella wanting to jump edwards bones and FINALLY getting him to give into her, ((through marriage)) Show the hand more with a wedding ring on her covered also slightly by blood. Suggesting possibly fight, or even deflowering of a 'marriage night' to come.

I've given the last book one, but there. Symbolism, I'm not getting into the books themselves because ANY symbol is so utterly beating over the head of the reader that it no longer becomes a symbol. Symbols need to be more subtle easing their way into your mind and making you think of WHAT it could be. Not what it means RIGHT NOW and such. Which is what Twilight/Meyer does so often that anything that isn't bashing you over the head is pure coincidence.
