The largest one I've ever seen was 4 tb. I'm sure there are bigger ones though. They're always making bigger ones.
The type of external hard drive that would be compatible would be a USB 2.0 external hard drive, with an external power source (not powered by the receiver's USB port.) The EHD minimum size would be 50GB and the maximum size is 2TB. In general, major brand-name external EHDs sold today are compatible, but currently only single EHD units are supported.
The buffer size is 8 MB.
The default maximum size of the Recycle bin is 10 percent of the hard drive. For example if the hard drive is 500 GB then the recycle bin is capable of holding 50 GB.
There is no limit on the size of a hard driveformatted with FAT16. The only limit is the size of a FAT16 partition on the drive. The maximum size of a FAT16 partition is 4 GB.

Yes, but you have to make sure it's the right size hard drive for the right size external case (or caddy). If it's a desktop PCs Hard drive then you will need a 3.5" caddy, if it's a laptop it will most likely be a 2.5" disk. Also there are two different types of connectors on hard drives. If the hard drive has a wide cable (usually gray) attached to it then it is an IDE drive, if it has thin cable (usually red, sometimes blue) then it's a SATA drive.
External hard drives for Macintoshes vary in price based on size and kind of hard drive. Solid State Drives (SSD) are more expensive than traditional hard drives but are much faster. Prices range from around $50 to hundreds of dollars.
You can get external hard drives in up to 2 TB. If you are looking for something more portable, you might want to go with 500 GB, simply because they make smaller models in that storage size.
External hard drive prices vary depending on the size on the hard drive you want to purchase. The more storage space on the drive, the higher the price will be. They can be anywhere from $30 to $200.
