AD means anno domini, "Year of the Lord", and is frequently used to refer to years in the common era. BC means "Before Christ" and is frequently used to refer to years before the start of the common era. These terms were introduced by the Roman abbot Dionysus Exiguus, who sought to use the year on which Jesus may have been born as the basis for a new calendar. As a universal, world calendar, the use of AD and BC is somewhat unsuitable, as Jesus is not recognized as the Lord of Jews, Muslims, Hindus, atheists and so on. Hence, the gradual adoption of CE(Common Era) in place of AD and BCE (Before Common Era) in place of BC.

Anno Domini--"In the year of our Lord"

Before Christ--

Nowadays it is more politically correct to use the terms C.E (Common Era) and B.C.E. (Before the Common Era)

What is AD BC?

bc stands for before christ ad stands for after death anno domini and before Christ BC is Before Crist and AD is a lattin phrase meaning "Anno Domini" in Latin or "the year of the Lord" in English. But, that has been changed BC-->BCA, standing for Before Common Era, and AD--> CE standing for Common Era. AD stands for the Latin Anno Domini, meaning "Years" (Anno) of our "Lord" Domini and refers to the birth of Jesus which was about 2009 years ago. BC is before Christ.

What was the period in time between BC and AD called?

There was no period between BC and AD. One followed the other. After 1 BC was the year 1 AD. There was no year zero or anything else between BC and AD. BC is Before Christ. AD is Anno Domini, the time of Our Lord, so basically from when he was born. So there is no time period in between before he was born and when he was born.

How do you count BC AD?

The last date of BC was 1 BC, then the first date of AD was 1 AD, there was no zero.

Is ad older then bc?

Okay Will AD is older than BC because AD is very old not like BC

What is the 33 years between bc and ad called?

There were no years at all between BC and AD. 1BC was immediately followed by 1AD. There was not even a year zero. Some think there was a year zero between BC and AD; others think there were 33 years between BC and AD, but neither of these are correct. BC is Before Christ. AD is not After Death, but Anno Domini, meaning the Year of Our Lord. So you had up to the time he was born, and from when he was born onwards, with nothing between them.

Why BC and AD?

BC : before Christ AD : anno domino

How many years are there between 30 BC and 30 AD and why?

58 years are between 30 BC and AD 30. The first thing you need to remember is that there is no year 0; the year before AD 1 is 1 BC. So the years between 30 BC and AD 30 are... 29 BC, 28 BC, 27 BC, ..., 2 BC, 1 BC, AD1, AD 2, ..., AD 27, AD 28, AD 29 29 BC through 1 BC is 29 years, and AD 1 through AD 29 is 29 years. 29 years + 29 years = 58 years

What is the meaning of BC AD and AL?

BC is before christ. Which is basically the same as BCE, or before common era. Most people think AD means After Death, or After Death of Christ, but that is impossible. Jesus, or christ, died about 36 AD. If it is After death, he cannot have died. He was born 1 AD, as BC is before his creation. AD actually means Anno Domini, meaning years of our lord. In conclusion, AD is during the time Jesus lived. AL is after Life. Which is basically the life after you die.
