the long rifle
You will have to define "sniper rifle". There is no meaning to that term, other than an accurate scope mounted rifle. That includes most hunting rifles.
'la longue carabine' means the long carbine (single-barreled rifle).
From the German word "riffeln" meaning "groove" - the barrel of a rifle has internal grooves to give the bullet spin, which helps it fly straight and deviate less from where it is aimed.
Just a serial number.
"Armee Universal Gewehr", meaning "Universal Army Rifle"

La crosse is the stock( of a rifle) meaning the wooden part that fits to your shoulder
I don't know what you want to compare the rifle to, to list its disadvantages. Typically, people call most long guns a "rifle," as opposed to a hand gun (although almost all handguns have rifled barrels). In a firefight, advantage is going to be with the person who has a long gun (rifle)--especially a high-powered, semiautomatic rifle. Maybe concealing a rifle is difficult, and it is usually heavier than a handgun. So carrying a rifle isn't always practical. Most military people will say that you use your handgun to fight to your rifle. Meaning a handgun is better than nothing, but if you have a rifle nearby, you'd be better off using it.
