I read once that it means "hope" in an Indian language. It has another meaning but not pretty sure of it so I just ignored it cause I didn't like it !
Well, as I am an avid reader, I read this name first time in a novel written by well known regional language writer. In Hindu religion, an " AARTI" is being in front of God, with lighted lamp, once it is over, same is being offered to devotees to take blessings of God. Here simply devotees are rotating their hands on top of lighted lamp and rotates their hand on their own hand with great feelings if blessings. This offering of lighted lamps for blessings of God is being called "ashka".
