Dermatitis (derm = skin + itis = inflammation) occurs when the skin is red, swollen and uncomfortable. Itching may accompany the inflammation.

Phlebitis (phleb = vein + itis = inflammation) is when the vein feels like a rubber hose. This is a common problem with prolonged intravenous (IV) therapy.

Thrombophlebitis (thrombo = clot + phleb = vein + itis = inflammation) is a condition where there is skin redness and/or swelling and the veins are easily felt and look like cords running under the skin. Another term for this is "White Leg".
