There are two terms that are puncturing of the abdominal cavity to remove fluid, paracentesis and abdominocentesis. Of these, paracentesis is more commonly used. It can be used to remove excess fluid from the abdomen. This excess fluid is called ascites. Performed usually with ultrasound and local anaesthetic, and often the fluid drained off is sent to a laboratory for testing.
There are also specialized terms used if you are talking about draining specific areas, such as culdocentesis.
Celiocentesis is the term used in veterinary medicine for this procedure.
Abdominocentesis
Paracentesis (para = beside + centesis = puncture) is also known as peritoneocentesis and laparocentesis. The abdominal wall is punctured and fluid is removed. It is used to relieve the pressure of ascites, to diagnose infections or cancer, and to confirm free blood in the abdominal cavity.
Abdominocentesis (abdomin = belly + centesis = puncture) is also known as paracentesis, peritoneocentesis and laparocentesis. The abdominal wall (peritoneal cavity) is punctured by a needle and peritoneal fluid is withdrawn.
This can be used to relieve abdominal pressure from ascites, diagnose infectious agents, cancer or free blood in the peritoneal space.
Centesis.
Like a paracentesis? For example, if you have liver cirrhosis (accumulation of peritoneal fluid in the abdomen) the doctor may perform a paracentesis which is a puncture in the abdomen with a syringe and metal device to remove excess fluid build-up.
Amniocentesis means surgical puncture of the sac surrounding the fetus.
amni/o = combining form for amniotic sac -centesis = suffix for surgical puncture
Amniocentesis is the medical term meaning surgical puncture of the amnion.
The name of the procedure involving a surgical puncture to remove fluid from the membrane surrounding the fetus, is called an Amniocentesis
amni/o = combining form for amniotic sac -centesis = suffix for surgical puncture

The surgical puncture of the meninges to remove fluid can be called a variety of terms including: spinal tap, lumbar puncture (LP), spinal puncture, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis and, if I were to make on up, it would be meningocentesis.
The reason to do a spinal tap would be to collect a sample of CSF and conduct a biochemical, microbiological or cytological analysis. Rarely it is performed t relieve increased intracranial pressure.
Centesis is the term for surgical puncture. If the fluid is removed from the sac around the heart (the pericardium), the term is pericardiocentesis. If the fluid is removed from the sac around the fetus, the term is amniocentesis.
Culdocentesis is puncture of the cul-de-sac to remove fluid.
This procedure is called arthrocentesis.

A
Bronchocentesis is the medical term meaning surgical puncture of the bronchus. Broncho- refers to the bronchus, and -centesis to surgical puncture.
Uterine perforation is used for accidental puncture of the uterus. Hysterocentesis is the medical term meaning surgical puncture of the uterus.
Venipuncture is the medical term meaning surgical puncture of a vein. It's a very common medical, not surgical, procedure. It describes the procedure used to take a blood sample, typically from the antecubital (front of elbow) space.
Craniostomy.
Laryngocentesis is the medical term meaning surgical puncture of the larynx.
Ovariocentesis
The medical term for surgical puncture of the spine is "lumbar puncture" or "spinal tap." This procedure involves inserting a needle into the spinal canal to collect cerebrospinal fluid for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
-centesis is the medical terminology combining form meaning surgical withdrawal of fluid from a body cavity. So arthorcentesis is withdrawal of fluid from a joint, and tympanocentesis is withdrawal of fluid from behind the eardrum.
centesis- is the suffix meaning a surgical puncture to remove fluid. An example would be amniocentesis. punturing of the aminotic sac to remove amnion for testing. -centesis
I think you are trying to describe a Lumbar Puncture, which is performed in the lower (lumbar) region of the spine.
-centesis is the medical terminology combining form meaning puncture.
