Appendectomy. "Ectomy" being a suffix that originates in Greek and used in medical terminology as "surgical removal of..." Literally meaning "a cutting out of", "to cut out", or "to cut". It is called an Appendectomy. The surgeon may use Laprascopic surgery. The surgeon makes 3 or 4 small holes in the belly and puts a camera inside the abdomen to see what he is doing. In the other holes he inserts his tools. He snips out the appendix and tapes the holes closed.

If the surgeon decides to perform open surgery, he will make an incision a few inches in length and remove the appendix that way. This method involves a longer recovery time than the less invasive laprascopic method.
