The pia mater is the meningeal layer that is just superficial to the brain. It is a thin and delicate membrane that closely covers the surface of the brain and spinal cord, providing protection and support to these structures.
The periostuem is a tough tight fitting membrane that covers the surface of bones.

The membrane that covers the outside surface of the femur is called the periosteum. It is a dense, fibrous membrane that serves as a protective layer for the bone and also plays a role in bone growth and repair.
The membrane that adheres to the surface of the brain is called the pia mater. It is the innermost layer of the meninges, which are the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The pia mater is delicate and closely follows the contours of the brain, providing support and nourishment to the underlying neural tissue. It also contains blood vessels that supply the brain.
Viscera denotes the organs in the body cavities. (The heart confined in the Pericardial cavity, the lungs in the Pleural cavity, and the abdominal organs in the Peritoneal cavity). Visceral membrane (visceral serosa) covers those organs.
