There are many sources of history. Written documents of all types and from many sources that were created in the past are perhaps the most common for more recent histories.

As one goes back in time documents created in historic times are harder to find. The further back in time one goes, the fewer of these documents were made and also the natural forces of the elements has destroyed many of those documents that were created.

Examining artifacts from the past combined with existing knowledge of the past and through techniques offered by all of the sciences of is also used to tell stories of the past. These sciences include geology, physics, chemistry and of course math for no science stands apart from it.

These antiquities can reveal much about the environment a society, species of animal or plant existed in and therefore methods of survival or of their extinction.
