The parable of the wicked husbandmen (Mark 12:1-9) describes great moral evil, setting the scene for an important moral lesson, yet fails to deliver one. Mark 12:9 simply tells us that the lord of the vineyard will come and destroy the husbandmen and give the vineyard to others, an outcome that any person would expect.

This parable does not live up to expectations because its purpose is different to what is generally supposed. It was not intended as a moral lesson and is not a simple declarative statement.
