limestone
There are many types of metal ore on Earth. One of the most common is iron ore, which is also known as hematite.
Marble is metamorphised limestone and a soft rock, so care is needed to quarry large slabs with a minimum of breakage. The most common modern method of marble quarrying is bench mining, where a huge wall of marble is cut loose from the quarry sides using diamond cutters, saws and hot torches. Dirt is piled up beneath this wall in order to cushion the fall when it comes loose. Once it is free and falls, the slabs are cut from the rock wall using the same types of tools and hoisted from the bottom of the quarry. Broken pieces are often crushed and sold as decorative stone for drives and gardens, while larger slabs are shaped and polished into slabs for building or other uses.
Granite is mined out of the ground in large blocks, usually up to 3metres long by about 1.5 metres square. These individual blocks are cut into multiple'slabs' of the requisite thickness, usually 20mm or 30mm thick, using a huge reciprocating arm attached to a series of blades. It's a bit like a bread slicer, only it takes a bit longer to cut through, usually about a week
Most are mined in pit mines. Some smaller ones are found by placer mining.
The most likely place would be at a limestone or dolostone rock quarry. However, fossils can be found in an abundance of places. Fossils are common in landscaping gravels, or anywhere mixed rocks are found.
Uranium and zirconium ores
The most often mined ore of copper is the mineral chalcopyrite.

Brown diamonds are the most common colour of diamonds mined, of gem-quality. Only about 20% of all diamonds mined are of gem quality.

The most important granite quarry in Ancient Egypt were located at Aswan.
Most diamonds are mined with an open-pit mining process. You can read more, below.
Quartz is the most common mineral in desert sand.
It is most likely mined in a strip mine.
