The Ocarina of Time is so famous because that game was one of the greatest games ever made. The game also introduced z-targeting into the video game world.
Super Mario
The most famous videogames are those which have crossed over into the popular culture, of which the most notable are probably Space Invaders, Pac-man, and Tetris. Pong is also very famous in the United States, although rather less so in Europe. Because of its huge cross media success, Nintendo's Pokémon is also hugely famous, but it is the brand, rather than the game that carries most of this fame, and indeed not everyone who has heard of Pokémon knows that it was originally a video game. Super Mario Bros. on the NES was for a long time the best selling video game of all time, but outside of the video game community it was a lot less famous than the games mentioned above. It was recently outsold by Wii Sports, but this game is still perhaps less famous than the successful arcade games of the 1980s since it is its platform, the Wii, which has enjoyed the bulk of the fame generated by its success. Of the recent video game titles, the most famous are probably those of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, which is infamous, as well as well known, but even these do not yet enjoy the cultural status of the original arcade hits.
Pokemon. For such a short period of time Pokemon has become the most successful franchise next to Mario.
"The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" for the Nintendo 64.
