The biggest/lowest instrument in the standard woodwind family (meaning it is used in most orchestral scores) has to be the Contra-Bassoon, or the Double Bassoon as they call it in some countries. The absolute largest instrument in the woodwind family is the Contrabass Saxophone in Eb. It's lowest note, a written low B-Flat on the treble clef, sounds two octaves and an major sixth below a concert B-Flat pitch, and stands 6'4 (1.9m) tall and 45 pounds in weight.

Well, each instrument in the woodwind family has a bass member, even the Flute. The largest regular instrument, according to size, would be either a bass saxophone, contra-bass bassoon, or contra Bass Clarinet.

However, there are several strange, rare instruments that in some cases are extremely large, most beginning with the prefix "contrabass" or "sub-contrabass". Examples are the sub-contrabass flute (7 feet high and 15 feet long) and the sub-contrabass tuba (pitched an octave lower than the BBb tuba - so large it takes two people to play it).

The largest ones that are in common use, about the same size, are the contra-bassoon and the contrabass Clarinet. The contrabass saxophone is larger than either of those, but they are very rare, and are not commonly used in orchestras or bands.
