What are four main elements from which protein is made?

All proteins contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. Most of them also contain sulfur, which is found in the standard amino acid residues cysteine and methionine (any given protein might not contain either of these, though it would be unusual).

Is carbon a fuel?

Organic compound is just the name given to almost all compounds that contain carbon. Organic specifically refers to hydrocarbons, compounds containing carbon AND hydrogen. Oxygen and nitrogen are other common elements found in organic chemistry Please see the wikipedia article about organic compounds.

How many hydrogen atoms does hydrocarbon have?

it depends on the hydrocarbon itself as this name is given to a broad group of compounds , propane , methane ect are all hydrocarbons with different chemical compositions but have one thing in common , when they burn ( +O2) they produce only CO2 and H2O together ( carbon dioxide and water ) all hydrocarbons are is hydrogen and carbon

What name is given to organisms that convert the carbon in organic compounds into carbon in carbon dioxide?

decomposers.....

Why carbonates are inorganic in nature?

From Wikipedia (see link to the left):"The name "organic" is a historical name, dating back to 19th century, when it was believed that organic compounds could only be synthesized in living organisms through vis vitalis - the "life-force". The theory that organic compounds were fundamentally different from those that were "inorganic", that is, not synthesized through a life-force, was disproved with the synthesis of urea, an "organic" compound by definition of its known occurrence only in the urine of living organisms, from potassium cyanate and ammonium sulfate by Friedrich Wöhler in the Wöhler synthesis. The kinds of carbon compounds that are still traditionally considered inorganic are those that were considered inorganic before Wöhler's time; that is, those which came from "inorganic" (i.e., lifeless) sources such as minerals."Some carbon inorganic compounds are: carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, diamond, graphite, fullerenes, cyanide, cyanate, thiocyanate, carbonate, and cabide.

What type of mixture is coal?

Coal is a compound and a mixture. It is a Black Shiny rock. Its principal elements is CARBON. , but since it is compressed organic matter it will contain Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Sulphur. Coal is mined and then heated in COKE OVENS. This gives an impure form of carbon. The other compounds given off, are Carbon Dioxide, Water, Methane, Ammonia, sulphur dioxide, Hydrogen Sulphide. All these gases are captured and put to use to make other chemicals.

What name is given to a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide?

Syngas

Does carbon burn in a vacuum?

In normal usage, 'burning' means oxygen combustion, so without a source of oxygen carbon cannot burn. Rockets get around this problem by carrying supplies of oxygen with them (although rockets usually burn hydrogen rather than carbon compounds). Further, given sufficient temperatures, carbon compounds may react chemically with other available substances, which may be considered a kind of burning

What is the gas given off when dilute hydrochloric acid reacts with sodium carbonate?

The hydrogen chloride: HCl.

Given two molecules both containing only carbon and hydrogen the one with a higher molecular mass must have?

must have more carbon or hydrogen atoms that make up the molecule.

Why is propane considered a saturated hydrocarbon?

Propane is an alkane and as such, contains only single covalent bonds, so it is considered saturated because each of its carbon atoms is single bonded with a hydrogen atom or another carbon atom.
