The Holocaust in the sense of routine mass killings started in 1941. In 1938 about 400 (?) Jews were killed during the Night of the Broken Glass (Kristallnacht). (The widely quoted figure of 91 is inaccurate and was that given by the Nazis themselves). During and immediately after the Night of the Broken Glass, about 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration camps, and by Christmas 1938, over 2,000 of them were dead. That makes a death toll at least 2,400 for 1938.
They came to Spain during the Roman Diaspora period.
In Poland there were a significant number of killings after the Holocaust because some Polish nationalists believed that the Jews were Communists.
The Spanish persecuted the Jews in the 15-16th centuries, during the Inquisition, and they expelled all Jews from Spain in 1492. There were also persecutions against Jews in Spain (expulsions, or killings, or forced conversions) in 612, 638, 642, 681, 1063, 1212, 1240, 1278, 1348, 1354, 1368, 1377, 1391, 1449, 1486, and 1490.
They were treated alright. ___ The period from about 1830-1933 was, if anything, a kind of "golden age" for Jews in most of the German states.
The systematic killings of Jews lasted from June 1941 till May 1945. However, some Jews were killed earlier.
