He saw the pirates as a huge nuiscance to his company and sought to rid the world of them. Beckett destroyed many pirate ships, hung pirates and those related to them, and any ports who dealt with them. His major "alliance" on the seas was Davy Jones. He gained Davy Jones because he threatened to have Davy's heart destroyed if he didn't help.
